1. Introduction
1.1 These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the LockIn.tech mobile application and website ("LockIn.tech", "the App", "we", "us", "our").
1.2 By creating an account, accessing, or using LockIn.tech, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the App.
1.3 LockIn.tech is operated by the Young Enterprise team known as LockIn.tech. Although not a registered company, it operates as an educational project under the Young Enterprise framework.
1.4 These Terms are governed under a hybrid of UK law and Gibraltar law, reflecting the jurisdictions in which the service operates.
2. Who May Use LockIn.tech
2.1 LockIn.tech is intended for students in Years 9–13 (typically ages 13–18) studying for UK GCSEs and A Levels.
2.2 Users under 13 years old may only create an account and use the App if a parent or legal guardian provides verifiable parental consent as described in our Privacy Policy.
2.3 By using the App, you confirm that:
- you are at least 13 years old; or
- if under 13, your parent/guardian has reviewed and accepted these Terms on your behalf.
3. Accounts and Security
3.1 To use LockIn.tech, you must create an account using a valid email address, username, and password.
3.2 You are responsible for:
- ensuring your login information is kept secure,
- any activity that occurs under your account.
3.3 If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@lockin.tech.
4. Subscription, Payments, and Access
4.1 LockIn.tech provides:
- an unpaid limited-access version, allowing one topic per subject
- a yearly paid subscription, charged through Stripe
4.2 Payment is due upfront for the year.
4.3 Because LockIn.tech is an educational digital service with immediate access to revision resources, refunds are not offered unless required by UK or Gibraltar consumer law.
4.4 Access lasts for one exam cycle (12 months) from the time of purchase.
5. Use of the App
5.1 LockIn.tech provides:
- AI-generated study explanations
- progress tracking
- exam-board-aligned content
- optional user-generated text inputs
5.2 The App does not provide:
- messaging features
- social networking
- communication between users
6. User-Generated Content
6.1 Users may input text (such as notes or questions) for the AI to process.
6.2 You retain full ownership of any text you submit.
6.3 By submitting content, you grant LockIn.tech a non-exclusive licence to store, display, and process it solely for the purpose of operating the App.
6.4 You agree not to upload:
- offensive, discriminatory, or harmful content
- copyrighted material you do not own
- personal data about other individuals
7. AI Output Disclaimer
7.1 LockIn.tech uses artificial intelligence to generate explanations, study support, and revision material.
7.2 The AI may:
- produce inaccuracies, errors, or outdated information
- misunderstand or simplify complex concepts
- generate content that is not aligned perfectly with your exam board
7.3 You must not rely on AI output as a guaranteed source of accurate exam information, predicted grades, or final assessment performance.
7.4 LockIn.tech does not accept responsibility for exam outcomes, grades, or academic decisions based on AI-generated content.
8. Intellectual Property
8.1 All content within the App—including designs, interfaces, branding, text (excluding user-generated text), graphics, and software—is owned by LockIn.tech or licensed to it.
8.2 You may not copy, distribute, or modify any part of the App without permission.
9. Prohibited Use
You may not:
- attempt to hack, damage, or reverse-engineer the App
- upload malicious code or automated scripts
- create multiple accounts to bypass subscription rules
- misuse AI functionality in harmful or inappropriate ways
10. Termination
10.1 We may suspend or terminate an account if:
- these Terms are breached
- the account is used in a harmful or unsafe manner
- required by law
10.2 You may delete your account at any time by contacting support.
11. Limitation of Liability
11.1 LockIn.tech is an educational aid, not a tutoring or professional advisory service.
11.2 To the maximum extent permitted under UK and Gibraltar law, LockIn.tech and its Young Enterprise team:
- are not liable for any loss of grades, exam results, academic opportunities, or data
- are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
11.3 Our total liability to any user shall not exceed the amount paid by the user in the previous 12 months.
12. Governing Law & Disputes
12.1 These Terms are governed jointly by UK and Gibraltar law.
12.2 Disputes shall first be attempted through informal negotiation by emailing support@lockin.tech.
12.3 If unresolved, disputes may be handled under the laws of Gibraltar or the UK, at our discretion.

3. Why We Collect Data
We use your data to:
- create and manage user accounts
- provide study tools and AI explanations
- track revision progress
- improve app performance
- process subscription payments
- comply with legal obligations
4. Legal Bases (UK & Gibraltar GDPR)
We rely on:
- Consent (e.g., under-13 users with parental approval)
- Performance of a contract (your subscription)
- Legitimate interests (improving the service)
- Legal compliance (age-appropriate safety measures)
5. Parental Consent (Under 13s)
5.1 Users under 13 must have a parent or legal guardian review and approve the creation of an account.
5.2 Parents/guardians may:
- request access to their child's data
- request correction or deletion
- withdraw consent at any time
- delete the child's account by emailing support@lockin.tech
5.3 If parental consent cannot be verified, the child's account will be suspended or deleted.
6. AI Processing
6.1 The App uses artificial intelligence to generate content.
6.2 AI inputs and outputs may be temporarily stored to:
- provide accurate responses
- improve system performance
6.3 AI-generated content may be inaccurate. Users should verify information independently.
7. Third-Party Services
We share necessary data with:
- Stripe — to process payments
- Google services — analytics and technical infrastructure
- Cloud storage provider — secure data hosting
- OpenAI API — for generating study content
All providers adhere to GDPR-compliant standards.
8. Data Retention
- Account data is kept for as long as the account remains active.
- Inactive accounts may be deleted after 24 months of inactivity.
- Subscription payment records are kept for 6 years (legal requirement).
- Parental-consent records are kept for as long as legally required.
9. Data Security
We implement:
- encryption
- secure password hashing
- restricted internal access
- regular monitoring and safety reviews
No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
10. Your Rights (Under GDPR)
You may:
- access your data
- request correction
- request deletion
- object to certain processing
- request data portability
- withdraw consent (for under-13 users via their parent)

11. Children's Privacy
